Current Geek 49: “Chewy is a little Chewy”

Join Tom and Scott as they discuss this: This kleige maidel* appeared on a German TV show where she demonstrated her remarkable talent for identifying Star Wars minifigs by putting them in her mouth. The blindfold is what makes this. And the minifigs. Oh, and the waistcoat.

And, we get a great reader submission from someone who recorded it! And we played it. Duh.

    Hi Guys

I actually grew up with that show (altough without the hot co host who is technically swiss/italian). Its called “Wetten Dass…” what could be losely translated to “Wanna bet.?”

The show runs since the 70s or 80s and it was way more popular in its earlyer days ;) . If you were a Star and wanted to show up somewhere important in German TV (German/Swiss/Austrian Co production TV to be exact) you had to visit Wetten Dass. Nowadays its mostly an Old people show or something you watch when you have nothing today on a saturday night :D

BTW There is nothing weirder than Japanese TV :D and the “This kleige maidel” should be “Dieses kleine Mädel” :D

“Wetten Dass…” is an important show in the German speaking part of Europe. Please don’t bash it if you don’t know it. It’s not a “Late Nite” type of deal but rather caters to a larger audience. Your grandma and your little cousin would both enjoy it, kind of deal.
It’s part competition (Guinness book style “stunts” and really odd things) which then a winner gets selected by vote and part celebrity deal (but more involved with even little concerts and stuff) and the celebrity then “bets” if the next “stunt” is going to be successful or not.
Thomas Gottschalk, on the other hand, is an odd fellow. He is rather tall, dresses flashy/badly, and at times is rather obnoxious. He also does family/children movies and Haribo commercials – akin to Bill Cosby doing J-E-L-L-O :-)

And yes, Italian TV is also really “odd”… One has to wonder :-)

Sorry, what I was looking for though were the show notes. Sure, they are in iTunes but wouldn’t it be nice if they were here too? That way they could be searchable!

I love your show!! It is in my TOP-5 podcasts!!
