If you enjoy the Timelines site, you might want to visit the cluttered and friendly world of the great guru of data presentation, Edward Tufte.

His books are museum-pieces to die for, and I heartily recommend his one-day seminar, cheap at five times the price even if he DIDN’T give you a copy of the entire set for registering. A genuinely bright guy who is here to help you…

RE: Weird time travel tales.
I have to recommend this book Armageddon the Musical (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49613.Armageddon_the_Musical) It has a time travelling sprout, the 153rd reincarnation of the Dalai Lama – Dalai Dan and Elvis. What more could you want.

The time travel in this is fantastic – almost chaotic. No worries about killing your own grandfather – more about killing god!

Aside from the usual screenshot-of-desktop-as-desktop-pattern-then-lock-computer-and-drag-the-computer-locked-window-off-the-screen trick…

…back in the day, I used ResEdit to change the pointy-finger mouse pointer to use the middle finger instead of the index finger in Netscape Navigator on my friend’s computer.

…I created folders with blank icons and named with a single space to hide important-looking documents in.

…I installed a remote keyboard app on a roommate’s computer and typed random characters whenever he worked on a paper.
