Current Geek 34: “That worm looks so real!”

Join Tom and Scott as they tackle how the new Dune remake is becoming as epic as Frank Herbert’s Dune series itself. Now that director Peter Berg has been ousted, new director Pierre Morel has decided to throw out Peter Berg’s script entirely, starting afresh with his own ideas and vision. ‘We’re starting from scratch,’ said Morel. ‘Peter had an approach which was not mine at all, and we’re starting over again.’ Morel also reveals that ‘It’s the kind of movie that has the scope to be 3D.’ He’s also keen on sticking to the original material and recognises that he must try to delete the images associated with David Lynch’s 1984 version of Dune from the public’s consciousness.”

And, we get a great reader submission from David, who names his kids some pretty strange names. :)

  1. Michael says:

I believe David Lynch only removed his name from the extended DVD release. His name is on the original theatrical release.

  2. Dave says:

Chris Columbus? Are you serious? He’s about as interesting as a cold glass of hot tea.

DAVID FINCHER would make a kick-ass Dune.

  3. Gil In Iraq says:

    Petter Jackson?

  4. eroc says:

Yeah, I’m all for Peter Jackson. He brought all that was good (except for Tom Bombadil, but that’s understandable) from the Lord of the Ring books.

  5. Gil In Iraq says:

It’s hard to make a book that is more then 100 pages in to a movie. I think that is one of the strengths that Jackson has. And he is a geek so he understand how to make movies for fan boys.

  6. Aleara says:

Yah, I’m a little behind on CG, but I would like to third the option for Peter Jackson. Scott and Tom, why didn’t you think of him? oy-vey…

  7. AmScray says:

Helloooooooooo Guillermo del Toro anyone? Anyone?? And if it would be any of the HP directors, Chris Columbus would not be the one I’d choose….I’d go with Alfonso Cuarón. If anyone’s seen Devil’s Backbone, you would know he’s able to take creepy tales and turn them into something meaningful.
